Ceausescu pictured in the first Romanian car Dacia

THEN. Here is the first Romanian car Dacia, in 1968. The dictator Nicolae Ceausescu was pictured in the driver seat, in the Pitesti car factory. It was a national event, but the car was similar to Renault 8, the parts were provided by Renault and assembled in Romania, according to Historia magazine.

NOW. According to official figures, 1 million old Dacia, different models, are still registrated in Romania. Most of them can be seen in the country side or in small province towns. Carmaker Dacia is now owned by Renault and produces new models.
