    • American F 16 fighters will arrive to Romania to be involved in exercises, the Romanian Defense Minister said. “We have exercises scheduled with the Americans in the Romanian airspace and the aircrafts will stay a long period in Romania”, according to Romanian Ministry statement. (Romania-Insider).

  • Moving Romania and Bulgaria from no man’s land to European Union in 2007 has put these two countries under European protection in front of Russia, EU leader said. The EC President Jose Manuel Barosso said in an interview that in both countries “many things are not as they should be”, but integrating Romania and Bulgaria was a good decision. (Standart News)
  • Romanian Prime Minister said he was paying attention to antifracking movement in Romania, but still Romania has to find an answer to a hard question. “Well, if we decide not to do shale gas extraction activities, then what would be our source? Russia. So, with the current events, I think any protest has to have a purpose and I think a serious debate would be useful”, Victor Ponta said.

What would be the alternative? Leaving Bulgaria and Romania in the interim zone, in the no man’s land? Wouldn’t they become unstable like other countries outside the EU?”

Up to 2,5 million Roma live in Romania, while the total population in Europe is about 12 million. In Romania, nine out of 10 live in severe material deprivation, the study said. (Reuters)
  •  A camel skeleton from the 18th century was found in the Romania city of Timisoara by archeologists, local media reported. They have also found some other signs of the Ottoman Turkish ocuppation: walls of a Turkish bath and of a mosque and also a Turkish cemetery. Most probably the camels were used by Turkish caravans crossing the region.
