United States and NATO should increase their presence in countries located at the Eastern borders of the Alliance, including in Romania, Romanian Government officials said during official talks on Ukraine held in Washington. “NATO should relocate navy, aerial and ground forces. The Black Sea region should be a top priority both for NATO and EU, the Romanian Foreign Minister, Titus Corlatean, told AFP. NATO’s top military commander in Europe, drafting countermoves to the Russian military threat against Ukraine, said Wednesday they could include deployment of American troops to alliance member states in Eastern Europe now feeling at risk.
- Six US F-16 fighters are already in Romania, for a joint exercise with Romania, at the Campia Turzii military base. Also an American warship is expected to reach Romanian area of Black Sea in several days.
- Russia said “NATO intention to deploy troops in the vicinity of Russina borders is against agreements between Moscow and the Alliance”. “NATO has also increased its activities not only with Ukraine, but also with Republic of Moldova and Georgia”, Russian deputy Minister of Defence, Anatoli Antonov, said.
